The Otira viaduct is one of the steepest roads to ride in New Zealand, but once on top of the alpine range, you simply feel like you're in heaven. Riding through glacier cut valleys, the roads are generally flat, there are numerous ski fields in the Arthurs Pass, merino sheep and plenty of twists and turns as well as long straight flats to open up the engine.

We also spotted an emperor penguin walking along the roadside just south of Bruce Bay, we think he was hitching a ride, we didn't have a spare helmet, so he couldn't hitch with us.
