Day 1 Queenstown to Invercargill
256 kilometres / 159 miles
We head off from Queenstown riding the southern shores of Lake Wakatipu to Kingston, we cruise through the farmlands of Southland to the small portside town of Riverton before reaching Invercargill, the southernmost city in the world, with its world famous Burt Munro museum which we will have time to visit. We may also have time for a late afternoon cruise out to Bluff, the southernmost point of New Zealand.
Day 2 Invercargill to Dunedin via the Catlins
248 kilometres / 154 miles
On our Harleys for day 2, this route, recently fully sealed, is one of the last unspoilt areas of New Zealand to be discovered. Caitlins offers beautiful white sand beaches and quiet roads. As you ride through lush farmland there are many twists and turns and coastal views along this route plus a visit to beautiful Curio Bay and the Petrified Forest. Arriving in the “Scottish City” of Dunedin for the night, we head out onto the Otago Peninsula to spend the night at Lanarch Castle with its stunning coastal views. There is also an albatross colony here and you may be lucky enough to see one soaring above us.
Day 3 Dunedin to Queenstown via the Pig Route
310 kilometres / 193 miles
SH85 which we take today is known locally at “The Pig Route” after a surveyor, named many of the streams after pigs! The ride takes us through lush green coastal farmlands as we ride higher into the sparse tussock clad landscape of the Maniototo Region, where you will be surprised to pass another vehicle on the roads! There are many long straights and sweeping corners and we head back to Queenstown.
