Day 1 Christchurch to Blenheim via Kaikoura
310 kilometres / 194 miles
Off on the Harleys we go, leaving behind the Garden City of Christchurch and heading out via the Waipara Valley vineyards with time for a stop at a local winery for coffee before heading onto New Zealand's seafood capital of Kaikoura for a seafood lunch, then we continue this stunning coastal ride up the east coast of the South Island into the Cloudy Bay wine region, where we will spend the night amongst the vineyards.
Day 2 Blenheim to Kaikoura with a Whale Watch
129 kilometres / 80 miles
Today we head back the way we came yesterday, seeing the view in reverse along this wonderful coastline, which gives a totally different view to the ride. We stopp at Nins Binn for a lobster, before heading into Kaikoura for a whale watch – an amazing experience seeing this massive aquatic creatures from such close quarters. If you don't wish to spend 4 hours on the boat to do the whale watch you can upgrade to a helicopter flight for $150 per person - giving you more time for riding the Harleys today! We then settle into Kaikoura for the night.
Day 3 Kaikoura into Lewis Pass to Hanmer Springs return to Christchurch
264 kilometres / 165 miles
Next day it is time to head back to Christchurch, but we take the different inland route heading back past Mount Liford ski field and onto the town of Hanmer Springs, famed for its thermal pools and here we can take lunch and try out the hot pools. Then back on the Harleys and continue on our journey back to Christchurch, passing through the tail end of the Lewis Pass and back via the Waipara Valley vineyards.
