Day 1 Christchurch to Westport via the Lewis Pass
332 kilometres / 208 miles
Jumping on the Harleys and leaving the Garden City of Christchurch behind, we ride through the Waipara Valley vineyards across the Canterbury Plains. We then head off through the Lewis Pass, a glacier cut mountain pass through the Southern Alps, cruising through beech forests and native forest and fauna. We pick up the stunning views of the Lower Buller Gorge as we approach Westport, following the Buller River through the gorge. A stunning day of riding with spectacular views whilst crossing the South Island from east coast to west coast.
Day 2 Westport to Christchurch via Arthurs Pass
343 kilometres / 214 miles
Back on the Harleys and now head south along the west coast with the southern Alps to our left and the Tasman Sea to our right – a fantastic coastal ride with a stop to admire the amazing Punakaiki Rocks on the way through. We then head inland along Lake Brunner and into the Arthurs Pass, the steepest ride on the South Island but once the climb is over you then cruise along on the high mountain plateau riding with the clouds! We then drop back into Christchurch, once more on the Canterbury Plains.
